WHAT IS A ZOMBIE?

To find out exactly what a zombie is we need to look at the different types. Types of zombie vary from film to film, here is my guide to the different types of zombies that appear in various films.

Zombies from all films have somthings in common thse things are

  • They are the re-animated corpses of dead people
  • They only attack living people and not their own kind
  • They are genrally not as strong as humans

This is only a basic guide line to zombies I am now going to look at the varied types of zombies in different films

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

The major factor that distinguishes these zombies is that they are the ones that are killed the easiest. It only takes a blow to the head that cracks their scull to kill them. This may sound difficult but compared to other zombies killing these is like a walk in the park. Another feature of this type of zombie is that they have vague memories of their pass lives which means they usually stay around places that they vaguely remember i.e. in Dawn Of The Dead Thousands Of Zombies flock to a shopping mall. The fact that these where the first zombies in films means that all of other zombies are based on these and I think that Romero's original zombies is how they should really be.

Return Of The Living Dead

The fact that the makers of these films took a comical look are zombies means that they are slightly different to the classic Romero zombie. The thing that makes theses zombies so different is that they cannot be destroyed (well technically they can but only by burning them to ashes), this means that if you cut a zombie up then all of the bits will remain living with a life of their own. The other main difference is that the zombies feed specifically on human brains, this is because according to the first movie eating brains stops the pain of being dead. The zombies in these films are a lot more intelligent than most other zombies the seem to have a lot of their past memories and still have some common sense unlike the classic Remero zombie.

BrainDead/Dead Alive

This film also takes a comical look at zombies and probably has the funniest type of zombie ever. These zombies are like the Return Of The Living Dead zombies in the way that they cannot be killed, they also carry on living even after their head has been removed (this is shown especially well by the zombie with a gnome for a head). These zombies are also like the Remero zombies in their actions they are as stupid as the zombies in the Night Of The Living Dead Trilogy. The strange thing about zombies in this film is that they are affected by tranquillisers and stimulants they are also able to reproduce, as shown by the priest and the nurse who are able to have a baby within a few hours.

EVIL DEAD

The big question when talking about Evil Dead when relating it to zombies is 'Are Deadites Zombies?' Its a question that I have been thinking about for quite a while, and I'll tell you my view when I finish relaying the facts. Deadites are as the name suggests dead which is a major factor in the argument for officially zombifying them, but the problem is that they are possessed by other beings (daemons if you will) putting a big question mark on their right to be called Zombies. Also deadites do not feed on people which puts another tick in the non-zombie column. You may have your own ideas but for me I say not zombie if you disagree with this or anything else on this page feel free to email me here.
